De'Longhi EC155 15 BAR Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker
just right I bought this espresso/cappuccino machine more than 3 years ago and have been enjoying cappuccino every morning since then. I do a periodic vinegar cleaning. It's not perfect but on the plus side it makes very good espresso has a small footprint is very durable and all in all is an excellent value for the price. Much to my delight an actual person answered the phone when I called customer service. On the minus side the instructions could be better and the milk frothing has gotten weaker over time. However I bought a metal frothing pitcher with a screen plunger for aerating the steamed milk and that works nicely although it takes an added 30 seconds to do.
Nice machine but Very nice Espresso maker. Suggest buying better metal tamper. Removable frother very easy to cross thread. I bought mine before XMAS and still waiting for the $20 rebate. All and all very happy with machine.
I bought 2nd machine I'm using my second EC155. The first one lasted 2 years. I can't go back to coffee maker. Because it delivers such a fine espresso I don't mind taking extra labor. I did look at more expensive machines after the first one died but it's hard to beat the value of EC155 for the money.
For the drinkers of strong coffee I studied Jennifer's and other reviews at length read all the Q&A and decided on this coffee machine. I have a working machine that relies on steam to make espresso and the coffee is good but I can't stand the smell of scorched coffee that fills the house. I've been futzing with my new one for a couple of days and I love it already though I still have a lot of experimenting to do. A couple of points to considerThe builtin tamper is just silly. You can't see what you're doing a lot of coffee clings to it and gets everywhere including your cup. I'm getting a stainless steel tamper.I'm getting a small box of pods so I can see what size the grounds are and feel the denseness of the pod. I like espresso made with coffees other than dark roasts and so far I've discovered that the grinder setting #1 is too fine and #4 works ok.It's harder to vary the strength of the coffee with this machine and by strength I mean the ratio of water to coffee. You can vary weaker coffee but so far I haven't figured out how to get the mud I was so famous for in college. Everybody drank it though that's why it was famous! If you want a strong cup and you pack in #4 ground coffee as tight as you can the coffee will take a while to drip through but don't go and play a game of Tetris or you'll come back to a flood. The result is a beautiful thing that lovely foam on the top and a clear rich color underneath. It wasn't as strong as I usually drink but it tasted wonderful.
EC155 Espresso Machine Have had this machine for about a month now and so far am very pleased with it its small size is unobtrusive on the countertop it's very easy to use and the parts seem sturdy I like having the two sizes for single or double shots the coffee filter baskets come apart super easy for cleaning best of all it makes a superb espresso with a terrific crema there is some trial and error involved to get the best crema since it's due to the how firmly you tamp the grounds and how tightly you pull on the handle when inserting the grounds holder. Which brings me to the only small complaint which is not really a complaint of the unit itself. It takes a bit of practice to get the coffee handle/basket in place since it must be inserted with a bit of upward force WHILE rotating it. I've found that it's easier to hold the unit against me with right hand while pulling the coffee handle towards me with left hand takes a bit of force but you'll get used to it.Other heats up water quickly steamer also works well tho I don't use it much. Saves me a bunch of electricity over my old stovetop espresso machine not to mention time.
Great espresso for the price Cons*It has a very low profile. The steaming wand and brew basket are both very low but you can find a solution around the steam wand by putting the machine on something high a small storage cube or something similar. The brew basket only fits small espresso cups under it so if you want to brew directly into a larger cup to make latte or cappuccino you need to remove the drip tray. Even that doesn't give you much room however.*The plastic hinge on the door concealing the water tank are very fragile. It snapped off with even gentle use.*It is LOUD and vibrates a lot.*The water takes about 10 minutes to come up to temperature for brewing and steaming.*Clean up is annoying but tolerable.Pros*It makes a great espresso with thick crema and if done correctly perfect milk foam.*Easy to use.*Looks beautiful!Overall this is exactly what I wanted and would have expected from a machine in this price range. It works does its job well and isn't too fancy. There's no automatic cleaning or automatic brewing you've gotta sit there and watch this thing. But that doesn't bother me.On the issue of the builtin tamper look I'm not a coffee enthusiast. I like coffee and want to brew it at home so I can make a latte without paying 4 bucks for it. The tamper worked just fine for me. In fact through trial and error I've discovered that I can avoid a huge mess AND fix the problem with soupy grounds left over if I fill the brew basket as far as possible with the grounds and then tamp it down with the bottom of the little measuring spoon that comes with the machine. As far as cleaning goes yeah it's a pain. Wash the basket out after each use wipe down the steam wand and run them both after you're done to clear it of leftover gunk. Use distilled water to avoid mineral buildup. The only thing that really bothers me is the height of the brew basket. I wish it were taller. But I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this machine so I can't complain too much. I work around it.I've had the machine for a couple of months now and use it about three times a week.
First rate espresso at a bargain price. Bought one of these wonderful little machines about a month ago after reading many reviews and considering a much more expensive machine the Rancilio Silva. This little guy has to be one of the best bargains on the market. With a little practice you can make espressos lattes cappuccinos etc. to rival the tony coffee shops. It's really that good and the criticisms of the machine are easily solved. Many have to do with the proximity of the frothing wand to the countertop. I put my machine on an old humidor and now the wand is way up high and easy to use.
Fantastic Value I just bought my third unit in six years and I think that says it all great espresso but weak durability. And I am very very picky about my espressoI can forgive the weak durability since I still only have spent $250 on these three coffee machines that give me $1500level quality coffee. The year will be 2060 before I've accumulated the same cost as that.
Love this thing! We've had our DeLonghi for about 2 full months now. It does a great job of making a good latte or espresso. The directions are pretty clear as well and gives you options for a quick heatup of the basket or a 15 minute heatup. We usually just turn it on before we shower and it's ready to use when we're done! We have also used it for hot chocolates and just used the frother to heat up milk.PROS Easy to clean Easy to use Produces a nice espresso Frother does a great job getting the milk really hot or foamy if you like Doesn't take up too much counter space Nice large water reservoirCONS Heatup time of 15 minutes but they provide a way around this if you're in a hurry. Built in tamper just OK we use this one
