  • Capresso pot lid is defective I like this pot it brews a great pot when it's all cleaned out I use baking soda some Borax and a scrubby brush but the carafe lid does not come apart for cleaning and is clearly filled with coffee gunk. I shake it and brown gunk comes out but I'm sure there's some left in there that is then dripping into my coffee. Please fix this lid make the whole thing easy to clean with no hidden gunk places. The price was steep for a partial stainless partial plastic machine.
Makes good coffee but design is flawed in a number of ways I had the old Coffetec for nine years it was marvelous though it did leak on occasion but even so it was the best coffeepot I ever owned. It finally died this year and we replaced it with the 440.05 MT500. I do think this machine makes good coffee and it gets very hot but the design of the machine is flawed and we have had one problem after another* The carafe leaks unless the little ball is perfectly lined up with the spout and even leaks when it is at times.
Purchased another after several years I purchased my original MT500 I'm guessing five to six years ago. I like it's look and the fact it's under 14 high. The carafe is nice. I can get a cup over an hour later and it's still hot and tastes fresh. The water gauge on the right side is a little tough to see for righthanded people pouring in the water but it works. My original started to leak water from the bottom of the water gauge about six months ago and I've been looking for a new coffee maker off and on since then but no coffee maker seemed to stand out. They all had problems either failing quickly or leaking when making coffee. This one never leaked coffee and my wife had one as well. They've both lasted roughly six years. The MT600 reviews weren't good so I looked for this one again and ended up getting it. Maybe in five to six years some manufacturer will figure out how to make a good coffee maker that has a carafe doesn't leak or fail within the first few years and I'll get it.
Great Coffeepot Great pot. Coffee stays warm for several hours and the stainless steel is both easy to clean and not so likely to break as the glass liners. The program is easy to set and you can wake to warm coffee.
A fine machine Purchased this unit to replace 8 year old Capresso machine. Fully expect the same quality of performance from this one and so far I'm very pleased.
Good coffee but carafe does not keep it hot. We purchsed the Capresso coffee maker a couple years ago and were willing to make the investment for a really good coffee maker. I buy coffee directly from a coffee roaster so I like a good fullbodied coffee. I got a flavorful cup of coffee and initially the coffee stayed hot in the the thermal carafe for maybe two hours. Now the carafe does not keep the coffee hot at all even when I preheat it with scalding hot water. I called the company and they will sell me a replacement cafafe for about the same cost of the newer model Capresso. I said no thanks. They lost my business as I continue my quest for a coffee maker that keeps the coffee hot after it is brewed. The thermal carafe lid is also somewhat difficult to open for pouring the coffee.
Still going! We bought this coffeemaker in 2005 and have used it twice a day ever since! It's still going strong! We love it! It reliably makes great hot coffee and keeps it hot in the thermal carafe. I just finished my morning cup. The carafe over time gets a coffee film which we clean by carefully putting about 3 ounces of bleach into the carafe and 'swishing' it around inside then with the bleach still inside filling the carafe with warm water and letting it sit for around 15 minutes. Then rinse it several times and it's as good and clean as new inside.
Capresso 440.05 Unit is solidly made with few moving parts. Easy to add the water easy to remove and replace coffee basket. Carafe keeps it hot for over an hour but not the four hours claimed. Very pleased with this unit.
Best Coffee brewer in local solar system Everything about this coffee maker is superior. One reviewer is put off by screwdown lid on carafe. Wrong. There is simply no other way to correctly seal such a superior carafe. It may be a little more trouble than a simple flapper but it ensures that the vacuumthermos carafe will keep your coffee hot and tasting freshbrewed for hours on end. Coffee made at 630 am on Saturday morning is still too hot to gulp when I return from Saturday activities around 200 pm and tastes almost as good as the moment it was brewed. That's the only day of the week the pot isn't drained within a couple of hoursneedless to say _that_ coffee is perfect to the last drop. The carafe also has near perfect balance. Unlike awkward straight sided pots/carafes it can be held vertical or poured with no effort or strain on your wrist. The shape and angle of the handle are crucial to achieve this balance. The brewed product is magnificent. I am no johnnycomelately to the coffee world. Living in the Portland Seattle area in the 70's and 80's we were drinking customroasted varietal coffees decades before Starbucks made coffeeflavored milk popular. I drink my coffee black and so it has to be perfect. Yemen Mocha Celebes Kolassi Sumatra Mandehling Guatemala Antigua Brazil Santos Indonesian JavaThe trick according to experts is for the brew water to be as hot as possible when it meets the grind greater than 200F. According to a review in a coffee aficionado list this brewer's water clocks in at 205F which is about as hot as water can be without actually being in a boiling pot.All the internal components and elements are stainless steel. They will not corrode or add any flavor to the water and simply brewing a pot of white vinegar every month or two will keep the MT500 in tiptop form.It comes with very fine gold mesh brew basket which I don't use.
Excellent Product As a former employee of Williams Sonoma who specalized in selling electronics from my own sales experience this model of the Capresso Coffee Maker was one of the best selling versions of coffee makers we sold and we had the least returns of them. There were many other brands that we also sold but everyone who came back in and told me about their experience with the MT500 all told me the coffee was brewed quickly and at the proper temperature. The only issue some had was the carafe did not hold the coffee as hot as they would have hoped for but many were expecting the coffee to still be piping hot after being in the carafe for hours. One secret to keeping the coffee hot for an extended time was to only open the top to dispense the coffe and not take the lid completely off nor fail to tighten it back to its initial fully closed position. For those who wanted or expected steaming hot coffee hours later I often suggested they do one of two things to better accomplish that. First was to pre warm the carafe with hot water just prior to making coffee and if they found that to be an imposition then I would often encourage them to pre heat a glass thermos style carafe one with a screw on lit not a stopper type and immediately transfer all the unused coffee from the stainless carafe into the thermos style carafe seal the lid and the coffee would be kept hot significantly longer. Many found this to be an excellent solution because they could brew a pot of coffee and pre warm the thermos carafe at the same time and use the latter to serve from since it would be more asthetically pleasing than the stainless carafe that came with the coffee maker.
