  • Bad design bad coffee! I bought this coffeemaker to replace a Melitta Mill & Brew that had served us well for more than a decade before a plastic part failed. I should have bought a coffee maker and a separate grinder. This machine is not at all easy to use. There are SEVEN separate parts that have to be removed and washed after each use. The two parts of the grinder have to be thoroughly dry before use which means that making a second pot of coffee the same day is a laborintensive job.The coffee it makes is weak and I found myself adding more beans than the instructions recommended and still getting weak coffee these are customroasted beans of excellent quality. When a mistake in one of my coffee orders left me with ground coffee I realized that this coffee grinder doesn't grind the beans fine enough for drip coffee.Another problem is that about half the time I was getting barely brown water only to find that the grounds in the drip basket were at least half dry after the brewing cycle. So I had to start blooming the ground coffee before brewing. It's so complicated to use that my husband won't even try to make coffee with it.
darn coffee pothere we go again I am wondering if anyone else has this problem.I have only had this coffee maker since christmas 2011 and the basket for the coffee just decides on its own to pop open at random times. Sometimes it is during the brew cycle and we are in bed.Coffee is then spilling all over the counter and underneath the coffee pot as well. Sometimes it just opens up after coffee is made or it also opens when you are trying to remove the pot to pour a cup. My husband gets up at 330ish in and the coffee is set to go off at 330. I dont have my reciept and I am going to call customer service.Any help to reslove this would be reatly appreciated.
Great Grind & Brew Coffeemaker We truly enjoy this Cuisinart DGB550BK Grind and Brew Coffeemaker. Even though it certainly is not the most expensive coffee maker out there it has performed very well. The consistency of the grind is commendable and turns out the same every time the same amount of beans are ground. Also the programable features work intuitively and perform as expected. It is nice to get up to a cup of good coffee when you want it that is brewed to your specifications and is ready for you to enjoy.Even though this style of coffeemaker has been around for several years it still looks current and fits with most any decor especially those with more modern accents. With that being said we must also state that its look is more current than one that is specifically designed to compliment an Early American Colonial design theme or a design theme that is French Provencial in nature.Since this has the Cuisinart name on it we think it will serve us for many years to come and would advise anyone to consider it when purchasing a Grind and Brew coffeemaker.
not for me Seven pieces to wash grinder steams up so wet coffee grounds need to be wiped out after every use potential sink clogs since the only way you can get all the grounds out is to rinse the parts in your sink. If I were retired maybe I wouldn't complain about cleaning this as much. I may as well use my french press. Tastes better and easier to clean. Grinder sounds like a tsunami warning signal. The first time I heard it I literally jumped out of bed. Visually bulky looking on my counter. Once the coffee filter collapsed and coffee started to brew all over the counter. Coffee tastes the same as my previous cheap Mr. Coffee Maker.
One of the best coffeemakers ever! We bought this coffeemaker after having a Capresso grind and brew. We liked the Capresso but a stone in our coffee beans ruined the grinder. We tried to get a replacement part or advice from the company and were unable to get any help at all. The Capresso cost a lot more than Cuisinart so we purchased the latter about 5 years ago to try it. Works like a champ & everyone likes the taste of the coffee. Some reviewers complain that it is difficult to clean I dislike fussy timeconsuming chores and I don't mind the cleanup at all. I just rinse the parts in hot watertakes about 10 seconds put on a towel or dish rack and I'm done. We liked it so much we bought the one with the thermal carafe for our second home about 3 years ago and its great.
Awesome! There are a lot of parts to clean compared to a normal coffee maker but the difference in taste from whole bean to ground is totally worth it! Will never go back to the preground coffee.
Review of Cuisinart DGB550BK Grind and Brew Coffee Maker Coffee tastes great it keeps the coffee hot not luke warm like other coffee makers. Like the look and its a great space saver. In other words not as bulky as other coffee makers with grinders. Other complaints from other users are how it leaves a sticky residue and how its difficult to clean but let me tell you the selfcleaning ones do not work well or may even work for only a short period of time. As far as cleaning yes it takes about 10 minutes a day to clean dry and put back together but its no longer than any other grind and brew system. Overall I like this product a lot and would recommend getting it from Amazon to all who would like to try a grind and brew coffee system. I did try other systems and took them back to the store but my friend has had this one for 2 years and only had one issue. He put some of the parts in a very powerful dishwasher. This may have caused issues with the filter container spring. Again this is the best coffee and grind system I have ever used.
Get ready to clean I will say it makes a great cup of coffee. I'll also say that while in brew cycle steam will enter the grinding chamber. The fine grinds turn into mud and the whole thing must be cleaned between each use. Simply put its just too much extra work.
Good And Bad The Good Firstmakes coffee! I like the 12Cup carafe and the design aesthetics blends nicely in a kitchen with stainless steel appliances. The programmable features are appreciated even the warmer time can be set which I like. The coffee is hot when produced and stays hot instead of warm like I've experienced with other warming plates. I can even turn it off right after the coffee is done and turn it on later in the day to heat the remaining coffee without the coffee tasting old.
worst design ever If you like strong coffee or if you like to make more than one pot a day you will hate this machine. The grinder is small and is placed where the water is so the unit gets wet during brewing. This clumps up the grounds and not only can you not grind enough coffee to make the 12 Cup pot the grounds get stuck in the chute. Cleanup is difficult and messy. A great coffee maker/grinder system was Melitta's grind and brew but they discontinued it. This machine should follow.
